Wild Life in the Maze:

Don't be surprised to meet Reynaert the Fox; Winnie and Vinnie the Heirs; Sampie Otter; Rashid Turkey; Speedy Turtoise and other four- and two-footers in the Klaas Voogds Maze. The permanent Maze population is absolute harmless. Crushed peach pips on the paths, however, keep snakes away. Next to the abundance of bird life this ‘Wild Life’ provides an extra dimension to the personal experience in the Maze. It all depends on the mood of our ‘domestics’ whether you meet them or not.

Uncovering the secrets of a Dutchman and a German and some more local folklore

The Klaas Voogds Maze is one of its kind because of its size (net surface: 13,870 m2) and its unusual lay-out. It has no central point but rather several resting areas each with an object that towers above the hedges as an orientating beacon. These beacons also serve as depictions of mystery and fantasy as live stories unfold during your maze stroll.

Discover stories in English and Afrikaans or seek out the curious objects that invite you to make up your own story. Even the entrance of the Maze is a classical 5-circuit labyrinth of cacti.

Several hedges are kept low for visibility and ease of navigation. A typical maze quest will last one hour, but some visitors purposefully want to "get lost" and stay forever...

The Maze quest kicks off with a Stone Age Cinema screening. This brief introduction (local history and folklore) explains the concept of Soekershof and provides clues to the maze quest. After the maze adventure, the "seekers" will find a small reward in the form of a unique handcrafted memento.

Guests are then offered a refreshment plus some more surprises at the Visitors Centre followed by a comprehensive tour in the succulent gardens and ‘free range walking’ in the Philosophers Garden and other hideaways.

Visitors are invited to bring their own picnics. We do, however organise a fresh Dutch Picnic for visitors who pre-book.

You leave Soekershof with a smile in your heart and a memento in your pocket.
