Herman
van Bon and Yvonne de Wit emigrated from the 'lowest wetlands' in The Netherlands
to a 'high and dry' Klaas Voogds in South Africa in April 2000.
Both
have a different professional background; Herman being a freelance
technical journalist with a horticultural training and Yvonne an artist.
Holland is a beautiful country but here in South Africa they found
the space and the opportunity to fulfil their dream.
Yvonne looks after the succulent gardens, the roses and all the things
Herman forgets about.
Herman is more conceptual; he initiated the whole idea of Soekershof,
planned the mazes and the other gardens and sometimes he even works
in it. |

Maart Geduld is thoroughbred Klaas Voogds. His family has been living here
for generations. Every year, and also for many generations, they celebrate
their Christmas by cheering up all the neighbours with their singing and
dancing.

Maart has a more practical horticultural background. He gained his
knowledge while working with plants and by reading books in his spare
time. He became the 'manager garden operations' of Soekershof and
is in charge of all the cultivation and other works. "Soekershof
became an important part of my life", he says. "It is a
privilege to help creating and re-creating this wonderful spot. Something
is happening here and I love it!!!". |
