Klaas Voogds Panorama
The Klaas Voogds Panorama is the starting point of every guided tour and is located in an old concrete water reservoir.

In December 2001 Dutch artists Wilma Christiaens and Bertus Blom created a cartoon-like story at the inside of the dam which visualizes one of the many legends around Klaas Voogd; the one which says he was a slave-driver who was trembled to death by an elephant at the foot of the nearby Kranskop Mountain.

The story about Klaas Voogd
and the Elephant

In fact Klaas Voogd can be regarded as one of the so called 'founders' of the 'bastaard' and 'bastaard Hottentot' sectors of the colony's population. Nowadays there are still descendants of 'our hero' in the West Cape.
According to historians Klaas Voogd has stronger claims to notoriety than the better known Willem van Wijk alias Willem Namaqua. On base of historical accounts Klaas Voogd appears to have been the South African 'James Bond' of the 18th century for he acted as a 'double agent', if not; a 'triple agent serving the Van der Stelts, the free-burghers and the Hottentots.

During the tour-introduction in the Klaas Voogds Panorama the guide will tell in-depth all there is to know about the eventful history of the Klaas Voogds area.
