The
Klaas Voogds Experience
Klaas
Voogds is one of the most wonderful and imaginative areas
in South Africa, offering visitors magnificent views, an unsurpassed
natural beauty and a pleasant stay in a relaxed cosmopolitan
atmosphere.

Deer
Creek
A couple of years before we started to re-establish Soekershof Fritz,
Tilanie and mother (in-law) Ann made their entry in Klaas Voogds
by purchasing the fruit farm Middelpunt. And they are making something
out of it. The original farmhouse is nicely refurbished into three
luxury apartments for up to 15 guests. Tilanie personally creates
and serves a wonderful continental breakfast; sometimes assisted
by Fritz. Warm welcome concert by three (or four?) faithful German
shepherds. Pets are welcome.

Fraai
Uitzicht 1798
Fraai Uitzicht is the much-awarded ‘gem’ amongst the top restaurants in South Africa and we are proud to have all those nice people around. Fraai Uitzicht is also a working farm and the handcrafted Merlot wines find their way to collectors all over the world. Accommodation consists of divers deluxe cottages and … what a View!!! Beautiful gardens, and the personal touch is outstanding.

Klein
Parys
This family owned farmstall is the extension of a modern operated
fruit farm along R60 between Klaas Voogds West and East. Klein Parys
also serves breakfasts and light (lunch) meals. As for the accommodation
in the main house Klein Parys offers value for money.

Is the ‘imperium’ of the Busch family. It consists a.o.
of budget friendly self-catering cottages in a beautiful setting
in a part of the nature reserve; hiking trails; wine cellar with
handcrafted wines; a taxidermy and a game reserve with indigenous

consisting of a four star guesthouse; a restaurant (open from 7.00

Sheilam
The ‘Little Mexico’ of Klaas Voogds and the rest of
South Africa. SHEILAM is the neighboring cactus nursery which was
originally founded by Maarten Malherbe (see also The
succulent gardens).
Beautiful collection of mature plants in the garden outside and
even more, precious, ones inside. Outstanding Haworthia collection.
Very cunning staff (from visitors we know that Sophie is the one
who knows all the names). SHEILAM exports mainly seeds and is also
wholesaler/retailer of plant material for the local (South African)
market.

The
Olive Garden Cottages
SC/BB appartments and cottages with pool, lapa and braaifacilities.
Set in wonderful surroundings with hiking trails and, for the beginning
mountaineer: the Kranskop to be conquered (reward: a stunning view
with Soekershof as centerpiece). Real Belgian hospitality.

(Other)
wine cellars in Klaas Voogds:
Bon
Courage
Much awarded wine cellar on the borderline of Klaas Voogds. Won
the prestigious General Smuts Trofee twice in a row. Father &
son Bruwer are the wine makers. And visitors can enjoy a simple
but fine lunch in the shade of some trees.
Kranskop
Nakie Smit is regarded as one of the best grape farmers in the Robertson
Valley but was much sorrow to see his product flowing into the mainstream
of a co-operative wine cellar. Within an extreme short period after
the launch of the first wines Kranskop wines are mentioned on many
wine lists of top restaurants.
Rietvallei
is globally well known for its superb Muscadel wines but recently
also started with other wines. Rietvallei is one of the oldest family-owned
wine cellars in the region and it has stayed in the passionate Burger
family now for 6 generations. Herman considers the Rietvallei red
muscadel as his medicin.
Wine tasting in the Robertson Valley is, unlike that in
the Cape Winelands, for free but the cellars are usually closed
on Saturday (after 13.00 PM) and Sunday.
